Guide to Choosing Your Pen Needle

Selecting the best needle for your particular circumstances always starts with a discussion with your diabetes health provider. Many factors figure into your choice:

Needle Length and Gauge

Clickfine pen needles come in three lengths, measured in millimeters (mm), and two diameters, measured in gauges (G). The larger the gauge number, the thinner the needle. Clickfine comes in 3 sizes for custom fit:

Your Specific Injection Technique

The proper injection technique affects which needle length is best for you. See how injection angle guides your needle choice.

Your Physical Makeup

Your build and the amount of body fat (subcutaneous tissue) on your body is an important element to considering which pen needle length to choose. Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is one way to calculate your amount of body fat. Visit the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) to calculate your BMI. Children and young adults have additional considerations. Review our pen needle Length Selection Chart.

Dexterity Issues

If you have arthritis, other manual dexterity issues, or vision impairment, you may find simple click-on pen needle attachment easier than the traditional screw-on attachment.

Dose Size

Because of their bigger inner diameters, larger diameter pen needles help large dose volumes to flow more quickly and with less manual strength through the needle.
